Understanding Iron Sight Systems

Iron sights are the foundation of pistol marksmanship. Before mounting a red dot, every shooter should be proficient with irons — they are your backup when the optic fails, fouls, or runs out of battery.

Front Sight Focus
Your eye focuses on the FRONT sight — the rear sight and target will be slightly blurry

6 O'Clock Hold
For precision: rest the bullseye on top of the front sight like a ball on a post

Center Hold
For defensive: aim dead center on the target — faster and more intuitive

Three-Dot

The most common factory sight configuration. One dot on the front post, two dots flanking the rear notch. Align all three dots horizontally for a center-mass hold.

Blacked-Out / U-Notch

Rear sight is a plain black U-notch. Front sight is a plain black post or fiber optic. Forces your eye to focus on the front sight naturally.

✗ Harder for new shooters
✗ Requires training to ingrain
Best for: Competition, experienced carriers

Night Sights (Tritium)

Self-illuminating tritium vials inside the sight posts. Glows green (or orange/yellow front) in darkness without batteries. 12-year half-life.

✓ Always-on low-light visibility

✗ Tritium dims over 10–15 years
